 Bobby Womack, a colorful and highly influential soul and R&B singer-songwriter who impacted artists from the Rolling Stones to Damon Albarn, had died. He was 70.                    Palpable fear has gripped residents and workers at Apapa area of Lagos State, following Wednesday night’s car bomb explosion that killed about four persons and left many others injured at the Folawiyo axis of Creek Road, Apapa.  Meanwhile, security operatives have shut down business activities between Trebor Roundabout (near A.C. Christlieb) and Alex Junction on Creek Road, areas that were badly affected by the explosion. Operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, Unit of the Nigeria Police were also at the scene at about 7a.m., carrying out post-blast investigations, while the Nigerian Navy and policemen from Area B Command cordoned off the area, preventing motorists and pedestrians from accessing the scene.

                    K ADUNA —  NO fewer than 110 victims of Monday and Tuesday’s killings in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State were, yesterday, given mass burial. Chairman of the local government, Mr. Emmanuel Adamu confirmed this development in a telephone interview with  Vanguard . The National Chairman of Ninzom Progressive Youth, Mr. Bezard Wuyah, who also confirmed the mass burial, said those buried included an unnamed Igbo trader and his wife. The victims were buried in a parcel of land between Gwantu Kurmi and Kobin near the local government. Speaking on the issue, Adamu said: “We have just finished giving 110 people mass burial this (yesterday) afternoon. We had no choice, because their corpses were decomposing as a result of poor facilities at the hospitals.

                 Eli Wallach, a veteran stage, screen and television actor who was closely identified with Tennessee Williams’ plays on the New York stage but gained fame in Hollywood for a string of films in which he specialized in playing bandits, thieves, mafia dons and other criminals, has died. He was 98.  Wallach, who received an honorary Academy Award for lifetime achievement in 2010, died at 4:47 p.m. Tuesday in the family’s home in New York City, according to his daughter Katherine.  Wallach won a Tony award in 1951 for his performance opposite Maureen Stapleton in Williams’ “The Rose Tattoo” and also starred on Broadway in the playwright’s “Camino Real” and off Broadway in Williams’ “This Property Is Condemned.”

                    A ritualist den owned by one pastor  Ernest Nwankwo , the  General Overseer of Holy Family Ministry  a.k.a House of Mercy was yesterday June 25th uncovered at Ogolonto area in Ikorodu, Lagos, with 8 victims rescued.  According to   Vanguard , the den was discovered after a failed attempt by a woman identified as Mrs Rosemary Chukwu, a member of Pastor Nwankwo’s church, to kidnap her neighbor’s 7 year old son,  Emeka Emmanuel   to the den for rituals.  Sources in the area said around 6.30 am yesterday,   Mrs Chukwu   lured the little boy who was on his way to fetch water from a well down the road and took him to her house where she locked him in the toilet.

Music fans were shocked a while back when word got out that Mr Idibia Snr was diagnosed with Prostrate Cancer. Speaking on the development, 2Face said: “He is fine and there is really no problem. He was diagnosed early and he has started the required  treatment. He will be fine. It is just one of those things. The family will get through it. The whole family is behind him and most importantly God is behind him too.”

                         The United States of America mission in Nigeria has congratulated the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for the successful conduct of the June 21 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State. This was contained in a statement issued by the embassy in Abuja on Monday. It also congratulated security agencies and electoral stakeholders for their conduct during the poll. It commended INEC for overseeing a credible, efficient process, which it said, by all accounts, reflected the will of Ekiti voters, and went ahead to laud the collaboration of security agencies for effectively providing a safe and secure environment free of violence.
